'Export as Adobe Illustrator' creates a file where the layer structure doesn't match

I don’t create particularly complex files comparatively but for a current job it requires to output as .ai so others can use them in their Adobe Illustrator installs. Can the .ai export from Curve be improved?

Opening an .ai file exported from Curve doesn’t create the same layer structure as within Curve. Layer groups don’t match. Strokes create many nested clipping groups and things.

Images show layer structure within iPad Curve, the result within Illustrator on desktop (there are suddenly many nested groups in there too), then finally the result after I’ve spent 5+ minutes moving everything back so it matches the original.
